What We're Looking For

The Senior Director, Academic Engagement will have primary responsibility for driving 2U’s academic engagement function across the portfolio with existing universities and programs by focusing on

  • Engaging University Stakeholders: Client work with faculty and dean on curriculum structure, pedagogy, staffing, course build, approval timelines, operational assumptions
  • Optimizing Product & Financials
  • Communicating with internal and external leadership
  • Staging Implementation: Early POC engagement with Implementation and Matrix stakeholders
  • Handing off to Program Operations (IMP team) 

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To


  • Lead conversations related to the program structure/curriculum and pedagogy with faculty and other relevant academic stakeholders.
  • As part of the sales process, work with the University Partnership’s team across the sales relationship on new partner education.
  • Using matrix resources as primary POC, ensure school faculty is bought in and university stakeholders understand the commitments to be made by the University.
  • Align school partner operational assumptions around course build schedule, course offering sequencing, section size, faculty staffing model etc.
  • Assisting faculty/appropriate stakeholders in thinking about and meeting accreditation requirements.
  • Maintaining positive perception with faculty and administration regarding 2U and the overall experience delivering their program online.



  • Confirm internal stakeholders understand all university specific procedural hurdles to launch the program.
  • As the sales process progresses, ensure implementation is at a pace necessary to hit planned launch dates.
  • Serve as the conduit between Matrix stakeholders
  • Conduct program summary handoff to program management
  • Partner in driving 2U’s academic engagement function across the portfolio

Things That Should Be in Your Background

  • 15+ years of relevant experience with increasing responsibilities
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Graduate degree preferred
  • Previous business development experience focused on developing relationships with C-level in business and/or Dean level in academia
  • Proven track record for fostering business opportunities resulting in high end sales of multimillion dollar multi-year relationships
