What We're Looking For

We’re looking for a strategic thinker with deep experience in financial aid to help guide 2U’s role in this sensitive and highly regulated arena.


The Director, Financial Aid Operations will be responsible for ensuring that we provide superlative support to applicants and students while remaining aligned with university partners, 2U, and federal standards. You will play a key, strategic role in the evolution, maintenance, and implementation of 2U and university partner standards with regards to financial aid, including training and monitoring of staff activities.


The Director will also work closely with Compliance leadership, Program Implementation, Marketing, Operations, and student-facing staff on program launches and will have responsibility for the ongoing health of relationships with university partner financial aid offices.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

External relations:

  • Provide guidance regarding 2U best practices to university partners on an ongoing basis from the time of initial contract through the duration of the partnership
  • Advise internal stakeholders and 2U university partners on the potential impacts of university decisions re: non-traditional term schedules and packaging patterns (BBAY vs. SAY)
  • Based on 2U corporate policies and guidance provided by the US Department of Education, work with university partners to ensure aligned service expectations for 2U communication regarding Title IV federal financial aid with prospective and current students
  • In cooperation with 2U program leadership, establish protocol for regular and timely feedback on aid related student issues and concerns between 2U and school partners
  • Set expectation for exemplary customer service to both schools and students
  • Develop and maintain relationship with veterans certifying officer on campus
  • Maintain ongoing contact with appropriate university staff, including regular updates on process and procedures


Internal relations:

  • Manage participation in new program launch and continued program support with business development, new program launch team, program operations, Admissions, and Post-Enrollment Services
  • Set expectation for collaboration between 2U Marketing, Admissions, Student Support, Program Operations, and Compliance regarding dissemination of information on student financing, including Title IV aid, and military benefits
  • In cooperation with the Learning & Development team, maintain and support training protocols including staff onboarding needs, periodic refreshers, ad hoc trainings, and update trainings for all new student facing employees
  • Assess and provide feedback to admissions and student support managers on staff performance regarding student financing discussions
  • Meet regularly with Program leadership and Operations teams to keep current with university and program requirements and feedback


Federal aid compliance:

  • Monitor and provide ongoing assessment of evolving federal Title IV standards and 2U obligations with regards to our role in the financial aid ecosystem
  • Document and escalate potential risks associated with federal aid guidelines and standards
  • In cooperation with Compliance executive, ensure ongoing maintenance of 2U policies and procedures relating to federal financial aid
  • Provide analysis and feedback to business development and new program implementation teams on impact of Title IV aid and new programs


Staffing and team management:

  • Determine staffing needs and manage budget for department based on evolving team responsibilities and staffing ratios that account for new program growth and servicing model
  • Review and update job descriptions as needed
  • Hire, train, and manage Enrollment Services Specialists
  • Provide mentoring and regular feedback to team on quality of work product and effectiveness of activities
  • Advocate for team as needed with other 2U departments

Things That Should Be in Your Background

  • 10 + years progressively responsible experience in a traditional non-profit or public university in the areas of financial aid
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal financial aid guidelines and standards
  • Familiarity with student information and financial systems
  • Experience managing a team in a fast-paced, high-demand environment
  • Strong project management and communication skills
