It’s an exciting time in 2U’s growth, and our Accounting team is a critical part of that growth; see more here. Our Accounting team at 2U is growing, and we’re looking for a Director of Tax to report to our Chief Accounting Officer.

The Director of Tax will offer dedicated tax support to all divisions within 2U, Inc. and will be responsible for managing 2U’s worldwide tax reporting and compliance activities, continuous tax process improvement, planning, and various ad hoc projects. The Tax Director will work closely with upper management and various cross functional teams, both domestically and internationally. We’re seeking a hands-on/high energy contributor; you are a strong project manager, highly detail oriented, adept at delivering results, and have demonstrated success in delivering exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Oversight of all tax related matters including income tax accounting, SEC reporting, tax compliance, and tax planning and strategy
  • Manage all aspects of the Company’s worldwide ASC 740 income tax provision process, accounting and related financial statement disclosures; explains and discusses these items with senior management and the independent auditors
  • Establish and maintain formal tax policies, practices and procedures to ensure US GAAP compliance and strong internal controls
  • Provide oversight and consultation into the design of critical tax accounting processes and technology improvement related to financial statement reporting
  • Forecasting and analysis of quarterly and annual effective tax rates; work with FP&A to develop forecasting ability by legal entity
  • Research and execute income tax planning that considers the Company’s overall effective tax rate and is consistent with Company’s business objective
  • Oversee global tax audits
  • Provide guidance on proposed and enacted tax legislation, keeping abreast of tax law changes in the US and foreign jurisdictions to manage risk and identify potential planning opportunities
  • Review and provide oversight of domestic and international tax filings for both income and indirect taxes

Things That Should Be in Your Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Current CPA in good standing
  • 5+ years of public accounting experience (tax concentration) with a big 4 firm
  • 10+ years of combined corporate tax experience
  • Significant international tax, transfer pricing and legal entity structuring experience
  • Track record of success in leading, managing, coaching, and developing high performance teams
  • Strong knowledge in public reporting preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and related analytical tools
