What We're Looking For

We’re looking for an In-House Counsel to join our dynamic and growing legal team. You’ll be the fifth lawyer on our team and will work hand-in-hand with the business units across our company.

2U’s legal team touches every aspect of the company. We translate our university partnerships into writing, protect 2U’s values, ensure that we’re complying with all rules and regulations applicable to us and work with the finance, operations, brand and marketing teams to help the business run.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Draft, review, negotiate and provide advice regarding commercial agreements with vendors across the business, including IT, marketing and software vendors
  • Provide practical, strategic and prompt guidance on commercial disputes
  • Analyze and negotiate agreements related to the ownership or licensing of intellectual property
  • Assist the facilities team with lease agreements and other miscellaneous real estate matters
  • Assist on other matters as needed

Things That Should Be in Your Background

  • J.D.
  • 2-5 years of relevant legal experience in law firm or in-house environment with a general commercial experience (but a focus on specialized transactional work (i.e., licensing, structured finance, etc.) is OK); in-house experience preferred, but not required
  • Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills; ability to close deals and projects in a rapid manner
  • Experience in intellectual property matters a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once and to follow through and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build consensus amongst cross-functional groups and demonstrate sound judgment
  • Admitted to a state bar and permitted to practice law in Maryland
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
  • Ability to analyze, research and grasp new issues and areas
  • Strong analytic ability – identify issues and develop innovative solutions and strategies to reach satisfactory resolution
  • Mature judgment on relevant matters of business and law
  • Ability to work with all levels of management and staff and work cooperatively as a team player
