What We're Looking For

As a Course Strategist, you help build the world’s best digital degree programs, one course at a time. You work one-on-one or with groups of faculty from our university partners, empowering and guiding them through the initial, design phase of our course development process. Along the way, you not only draw on knowledge of existing tactics for online course delivery, you also think ambitiously and creatively to develop customized strategies and innovative approaches to teaching highly successful courses on our platform.

For faculty, you are an enthusiastic and empathetic thought partner who inspires confidence and is a source of motivation. You deeply understand their course and, as such, can help solve their unique challenges. You champion and can clearly communicate their values to stakeholders at 2U.

For internal partners, you are responsible for conceptualizing and communicating a thoughtful, holistic strategy that defines how to deliver a high-quality, successful online course. You proactively identify and mitigate challenges that may arise in development, you push for ambitious solutions, and you meticulously and clearly document the details.

We are looking for an experienced, quick-thinking, creative problem-solver with robust communication skills and a demonstrated interest in education. The successful candidate will use these skills to design and strategize courses, augment internal processes, help deliver great outcomes for students and faculty, and work on the frontlines to shape the future of education.

Consideration for this role requires the submission of a resume and a thorough but appropriately concise response to the following prompt:

Think of a memorable classroom learning experience. Were you tasked with delivering an effective online version of this learning experience, what challenges and opportunities would you need to consider? What analysis would you undertake before beginning the design process? What risks do you see, and how might they be mitigated? Be sure to provide rationale and evidence for your opinions.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

  • Prepare for and lead organized yet adaptive meetings with faculty to gather information and earn buy-in on customized online course delivery strategies
  • Seek out and engage with opportunities to think creatively and find innovative solutions to online course delivery challenges -- then doggedly see them through to successful execution
  • Investigate the nature of a course and adapt to varied, complicated, and technical subject matter on short deadlines
  • Synthesize and succinctly summarize copious amounts of information into clear documentation
  • Collaborate with internal and external program leadership with confidence and competence, meeting any hurdles or resistance with a calm, nimble, and positive mindset
  • Deliver engaging and persuasive presentations and dynamic course design workshops to faculty and school leadership

Things That Should Be in Your Background

  • While academic credentials may be valuable, we are equally interested in comparable relevant professional or personal experience
  • 6-8 years of transferable professional experience
  • Demonstrated experienced leading meetings, presentations and workshops with high-profile clients and putting them at ease with new processes
  • A succession of stories that highlight your ability to solve complex problems within rigid limitations
  • Examples of planning and executing successful initiatives that required collaboration with university faculty, university leaders, content experts, cross-functional teams, or other highly-engaged partners
  • Accolades from colleagues and clients celebrating your nuanced ability to help them achieve their dreams

Course Strategists work across multiple academic programs. The position is located in our New York City office, reporting to 2U’s Senior Director, Course Strategy. We have a close knit team culture in the office and are very flexible with work hour schedules or work from home requests.

Other Attributes That Will Help You in This Role

  • You possess and constantly refine an agile, robust, and persuasive verbal and written communication skill set
  • You are an active listener, who is known for practical and empathetic advice
  • You explain things well
  • Your enthusiasm is contagious and you make others laugh
  • You are a pragmatic, constructive devil’s advocate
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity, but like to see things through to completion
  • You can see the big picture, but enjoy documenting the minutiae of a process or strategy
  • You are willing to travel to
the campuses of our partner schools as needed
